While parents are not prohibited by elders in going to the police, if the elders find the alleged abuser is not guilty from lack of a second witness, than the parents or reporters are manipulated through control tactics by the threat of disfellowshipping for slander.

So Watchtower is the ultimate authority on who is considered and a "known abuser"?
Nope. Not their call.
That judgement should be reserved for law enforcement and prosecution.
When Watchtower stonewalls and uses legal loopholes to avoid reporting to the police they will remain culpable and in malfeasance and will continue paying out millions in attorney's fees.

The problem arises when Watchtower fails to alert and allow the Justice system to judge these criminals. Elders need to call the police immediately even in suspected cases of abuse. Not call headquarters. Call the police.
Until they adjust policy in this regard they will continue to lose millions in a court of law.

Nitty Gritty. You are mis informed and delusional. My daughter's abuser is in state prison(former elder) No two witnesses to the molestation. No proof other than her 29 pages of declaration.
so ofs was at the wt this morning, and on par.
14 the question was, "what trust can a faithful christian whose relative is disfellowshipped have?".
after awhile when no one else raised their hands ofs did, and was called on.. ofs commented, "one of jw can have the trust that god will lovingly give them the ability to uphold the disfellowshipping arrangement by totally shunning family members.".
i decided to go to the bethel recruiting meeting yesterday to test out my theory that the organization is in decline.
i assumed that if there is a general feeling of apathy by many in the org, then certainly it would be shown up by the lack of enthusiasm or zeal by many to sign up for bethel service.
well let me say that based on what i observed, this organization is not going anywhere.
Bethel meetings are always well attended because it foots the bill of making appearance for appearance's sake. If you don't attend you must be sinning and are a spiritual reject. It will cramp your opportunities to impress the opposite sex and their parents.
This is nothing new or shocking or surprising to me. Less than .01% in attendance will actually end up in Bethel.

i just have 2 questions regarding the u.s law around sex abuse.. (1) in this country it is quite common for the events of a sex abuse trial, to have suppression orders placed on it.
one i can think of was when the offender was given name suppression because to identify the abuser would also mean identifying the victim, so hence both were given name suppression.
now with regard to the out of court settlements and gag orders by the watchtower, and yes i do realise that the wt would have the most to benefit by doing this.
For a victim to be dragged through trial is horrific. Defense attorneys are ruthless. So yes many victims settle out of court to avoid the pain of trial. This also happens regularly in criminal court. You can not fault a victim for this choice. WT gets picked on in these cases because they are viewed as the bad guy. Also, WT doesn't just write out fat settlements. They argue and fight and threaten to get the victim to settle for as little as possible.
Zalkin did nothing wrong in the Lopez case. WT chose to be in contempt. It would not make sense for Zalkin to follow any other procedure than what has found success.

JWs knock on the doors of strangers, they call random strangers on the telephone and they write lengthy letters to addresses of strangers in their areas. Their message irritates the crap out of people. Even when they are asked to stop they do it again months down the road when some ballsy servant going out for elder decides to update the "do not call"
Why can't we knock on their doors, call or write?

In criminal court blame goes on the perpetrator. In civil court blame is given to parents, elders, congregations and headquarters. I understand where johnamos is coming from as well as everyone saying don't blame the parents. It all boils down to culpability. In every civil case the finger is pointed at parents by the Watchtower legal team. But often times parents hardly have any measure of culpability because they where never made aware of an abusers past. It's that malfeasance of Watchtower's policy which shields pedophiles from discovery that they are paying for in court today.
If a JW parent learns their child has been abused yes they should go to the police first but they don't because they believe they are making Jehovah sad if they do. Why do they feel that way? Who has conditioned them to feel that way? JW parents put the organization first before their own children. To place the blame squarely on them for not going to the police is ignoring the underlying issues and that is what upsets people when others start pointing their finger at parents.
